Following his meeting with Nabatiyeh Governor Mahmoud al-Mawla, UNIFIL’s Spanish Contingent General Ricardo Alvarez-Espejo said on Thursday that his contingent and UNIFIL are ready to help the Lebanese cabinet implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Espejo highlighted the already positive cooperation between UNIFIL and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in maintaining security in the South of the country.
He emphasized however, the need for enhancing coordination between the LAF and UNIFIL to develop “support methods in case of fires or other catastrophes.”
He added that UNIFIL has met with the heads of municipality in Marjayoun and Hasbaya to offer them financial aid and support their development projects.
